Overview

A research institute that builds its own record

We rebuilt GATE's website from forty ageing pages into a living research record — linking every researcher to their papers, and giving marketing the tools to publish without a developer.

  • Site migration
  • 40+ page redesign
  • People & publications tool
  • Events & news templates
  • HR tool integration
  • SEO architecture

Challenge

A research institute is judged on two things: who works there, and what they've published. On most institute websites those live apart. The researcher is a bio page, a paper is a link to a PDF, and nothing joins them up. GATE also had forty-odd pages of an ageing site to bring across, and a constant stream of events, news, and open positions that marketing needed to publish without a developer.

Approach

We rebuilt the site around that missing connection. A custom tool lets GATE assign researchers to the papers and projects they worked on, so every person page carries their record, and every publication names its team. The link is made once and appears everywhere. Events, news and resources got templates, and the HR tool feeds open positions straight in for both employees and student applications.

Outcome

We brought the website to a modern look, with improved performance. All of GATE’s services, research laboratories, and application domains are described in an organised, easy-to-understand way. GATE's public record now builds itself as the research happens. Every new paper adds pages, internal links and visible evidence of who did the work, connected to the published paper — which is what a search engine and a grant reviewer are both looking for.
